Heute arbeite ich noch etwas an "Leilani". Sie ist fast fertig. "Leilani" ist ein schöner Name, oder? Er bedeutet "Blume des Himmels".

Today, I am working a little bit on "Leilani". She is almost finished. "Leilani" is a nice name, huh? It means "Flower of heaven".

Studium Malerei

Ich habe den Häkelstein mit dem japanischen Garn fertig gemacht. Und ...

ich wollte Euch noch erzählen, dass ich mich entschlossen habe, nicht Malerei und Grafik zu studieren.

I wanted to tell you, that I have decided not to study painting and graphics.

Ich war etwas verwirrt, nachdem ich von dieser Kunstschule zurückkam, denn eigentlich hätte ich mich freuen sollen, dass ich dort angenommen wurde. Vorher hatte ich mich nämlich schon gefragt, ob die mich wohl nehmen werden, was die wohl von mir sehen wollen und solche Dinge, die einem vorher so durch den Kopf gehen. UND ich fand die Vorstellung, Malerei zu studieren, sehr schön. Aber ich hatte kein gutes Gefühl, nachdem ich zurück war. Was jetzt?

I was a little confused, after I returned from that art school, because I thought I should be glad, that I was accepted there. Before I found the idea to study painting very nice. But I did not feel good after I returned. What now?


Ich habe einige Tage darüber nachgedacht und ich glaube, dass es an den Bildern lag, die ich dort gesehen habe. Ich wurde dort durch die Räume geführt, mir wurden die Atelierräume und die Galerei gezeigt und ich habe dort nicht ein Bild gesehen, das mir gefallen hätte.

I have thought about it a few days and I think it was because of the paintings I have seen there. I was shown the studio space and gallery and I have not seen one painting, that would have pleased me.

Sie waren mit Sicherheit meisterlich ausgeführt. Manche waren fast nicht von Fotos zu unterscheiden. Aber genau das möchte ich ja gar nicht. Wenn ich eine 100 % realistische Darstellung möchte, dann nehme ich einen Fotoapparat. Ich habe Hochachtung vor den Leuten, die so realistisch malen können, aber ich habe Angst, wenn ich das wirklich realistische Malen lerne, dass ich dann nicht mehr anders malen kann und das will ich nicht.

They were really masterpieces. Some were almost indistinguishable from photographs. But that's exactely what I do not want. If I want a 100% realism, then I take a camera. I have respect for the people, who can paint so realistically, but I'm afraid, if I learn really realistic painting, that I can no longer paint differently and I absolutely do not want that.

Auch von den abstrakten Bildern hat mich keines angesprochen. Also denke ich mir, warum soll ich drei Jahre etwas lernen, was mir gar nicht gefällt?

It was the same with the abstract paintings. None has pleased me. So I think to myself, why should I learn something three years, which I do not like? 

 

Auftragsarbeit

Ich habe erst einmal alles zur Seite gelegt und noch etwas Neues angefangen. Es ist eine Auftragsarbeit, die ich schon ein paar Monate vor mir her schiebe. Ich hatte dem Auftraggeber zwar gesagt, dass ich es erst nach Weihnachten malen kann, aber wenn dieses Format nicht gewesen wäre, hätte ich es bestimmt schon längst gemacht.

I put aside everything and even started something new. It is a commissioned work, that I put a couple of month infront of me. Although I had told the client, that I will do it not before Christmas, if this format would not have been, I certainly would have done it already.

Heute bin ich schon um 4.00 morgens aufgestanden und habe es angefangen. Das Format, was mich die ganze Zeit so abgeschreckt hat, ist Breite 1,37 m x Höhe 0,85 m. Ist Euch klar wie groß das ist? Aber die Größe allein war es gar nicht, sondern das Querformat. Ich fand das Querformat bei dieser Größe sehr schwierig.

Today, I got up at 4.00 o`clock in the morning and started it. The format, which discouraged me so all the time, is width 54 inch x height 33,5 inch. Do you know, how big this is? But the size was it not alone, even more the landscape. I found the landscape at this size so difficult.

Ich habe es jetzt endlich heute morgen angefangen und was soll ich sagen? Es hat sofort seinen Schrecken verloren. Ich möchte jetzt glaube ich nur noch so groß malen. :)

I have finally started it this morning and what should I say? It has lost its horror immediately. I think I would like to paint so big always, now. :)

Es wird so cool. Ich würde Euch gerne schon etwas von dem Bild zeigen, aber da es eine Auftragsarbeit ist, zeige ich es lieber erst, wenn es fertig ist. Wer weiß, was noch passiert.

It is so cool. I would like to show you something from the painting so much, but since it is a commission, I prefer to show you only when it is finished. Who knows what happens.

Out of focus

Wo war ich stehen geblieben? Ach ja, es fing mit dieser Tasche an, dass ich Wolle rausgekramt habe.

Where did I stop? Oh yes, it started with this bag, that I fished out my wool.

Ich habe dann noch ein kleines Portemonnaie gehäkelt. Fertig, zum Glück.

I have crocheted a small purse. Finished, thank God.

Dann habe ich dieses japanische Garn in meiner Kiste entdeckt, welches ich noch nie benutzt habe. Ich dachte es wäre doch wunderschön geeignet, um einen Stein zu umhäkeln.

Then I discovered this japanese yarn in my box, which I have never used. I thought it would be beautiful for a crocheted stone.

Wo ich dann wieder bei den Steinen war, mußte ich gleich noch einen angefangen, obwohl der eine ja noch gar nicht fertig ist.

Then I was compelled to start another one, although the one is still not finished.

Außerdem mußte ich anfangen, eine Decke zu häkeln.

Also, I had to start to crochet a blanket.

Out of focus - The beginning

Was ich eigentlich sagen wollte, ist, dass ich mich seit Weihnachten "out of focus" fühle. Ich weiß nicht, wie ich das sonst nennen soll. Ich fange alles mögliche an, kann mich auf nichts wirklich konzentrieren, weil ich noch tausend andere Dinge gleichzeitig machen möchte. Es geht im Moment drunter und drüber und ich fühle mich, als ob ich überlaufe.

What I really wanted to say is that I feel myself "out of focus" since Christmas.  I`m starting everything, I cannot really concentrate on anything, because I want to do a thousand other things at the same time. It feels as if I overflow at the moment.

Es fing glaube ich mit dieser Tasche an, die ich während der Weihnachtszeit gemacht habe.

I think it started with this bag, that I made during the Christmas season.

Eigentlich wollte ich eine kleine Tasche für meinen Fotoapparat machen, aber irgendwie ist mal wieder ganz was anderes draus geworden.

Actually, I wanted to make a small bag for my camera, but somehow again something totally different came out.

Sie hat rein gar nichts mit meinem Fotoapparat zu tun, aber sie gefällt mir sehr gut. Und sie ist fertig. Auch sehr wichtig.

It has absolutely nothing to do with my camera, but I like it very much. And it is finished. Also very important.

Ich denke, dass ich sie in den nächsten Tagen bei Dawanda oder Etsy einstellen werde. Ich brauche erst wieder ein paar Tage, bis ich mich trennen kann. Außerdem fällt es mir oftmals sehr schwer, einen Preis festzulegen. Bei dieser Tasche zum Beispiel habe ich gemalt, gefilzt, gestickt, genäht und gestrickt. Den Träger zu stricken dauert schon Stunden. Andersrum muß es ja auch irgendwie erschwinglich sein. Ich lege dann immer einfach irgendwann einen Preis fest, von dem ich denke, dass er bezahlbar ist und bei dem ich hoffe, dass ich nicht weinen muß, wenn das Teil verkauft wird.

I think I`ll offer it on Dawanda or Etsy within the next few days. I only need a few more days to seperate myself and I find it often very difficult, to set a price. In this case, for example, I have  painted, felted, embroidered, sewed and knitted. The carrier to knit lasts for hours. On the other hand it must be affordable, too. So, at some point I set a price, which I think is affordable and where I hope, that I must not cry, when the thing is sold.

Meine wunderschöne Vitrine

Hallo, Ihr da draussen. Ich hoffe, Ihr hattet alle schöne Weihnachten. Ich wollte schon die ganzen Tage mal Hallo sagen. Leider habe ich es nicht getan und jetzt weiß ich gar nicht, wo ich anfangen soll.

Hello, you out there. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas. I was going to say Hello the whole days. Unfortunately I have not done it and now I don`t know where to start.

Erst einmal muß ich Euch diese wunderschöne Vitrine zeigen, die ich mit meinem Mann zusammen durch ganz Münster geschleppt habe, und die jetzt mir gehört. Ich habe sie mir selbst zu Weihnachten geschenkt und sie steht nun in unserem Flur.

First of all I must show you this beautiful showcase, which I have dragged with my husband all over the city "Münster", and which now belongs to me. I gifted myself for Christmas and she now stands in our hallway.

An dieser Stelle hängt meistens mein neuestes Bild, bis ich mich davon trennen kann.

This is the place, where my latest painting hangs usually, until I can separate myself from it.

Was ich in sie reinstellen werde, weiß ich noch nicht, aber sie ist jetzt schon ein schöner Ausstellungsort für meine Steine.

I don`t know what to put in it, but it is already a beautiful exhibition place for my stones.

So, weit bin jetzt ja nicht gekommen, denn eigentlich wollte ich ganz was anderes sagen. Ich hoffe, dass ich später weiter schreiben kann. Bis bald.

Gestern habe ich mich in einer Kunstschule vorgestellt, weil ich Malerei studieren wollte. Ich sollte ein paar meiner Arbeiten mitbringen um zu sehen, ob ich dafür überhaupt geeignet wäre. Ich wurde für geeignet befunden und könnte direkt im Januar anfangen, wenn ich ein Wochenendstudium machen wollte. Da für mich aber nur ein Abendstudium in Frage käme, müßte ich noch bis Mai warten. Aber wißt ihr was? Ich weiß jetzt gar nicht mehr, ob ich das überhaupt noch will. :(

Yesterday, I introduced myself in an artschool, because I wanted to study painting. I should bring some of my work to see, if I would be good enough to get started. I was found to be suitable and could immediately start in january, when I wanted to do a weekend course. As for me, only an evening course would be possible, I would have to wait till may. But do you know what? Now I don`t know, if I still want it. :(

Manchmal mag ich meine Bleistiftarbeiten. Ich arbeite dann so lange mit dem Bleistift, dass es mir so gut gefällt, dass ich keine Farbe mehr benutzen kann. Ich weiß noch nicht so genau, wie es weiter geht, aber ich denke, sie wird wohl in Bleistift bleiben. Sie ist so schön, wie sie ist. Ich kann sie nicht mit Farbe übermalen.

Sometimes I like my pencil work. Then I work so long with the pencil, that it pleases me so well, that I cannot use paint anymore. I`m not exactly sure how to go on, but I think she will probably remain in pencil. She is beautiful as she is. I cannot paint over her with paint.

Watersoluble pencil

Ich habe letztens einen wasserlöslichen Bleistift gekauft, den ich jetzt ausprobiere. Ich weiß aber noch nicht wirklich, was ich davon halten soll. Benutzt so etwas jemand von Euch?

Recently, I bought a watersoluble pencil, which I try now. I don`t know what to think about it, yet.

Is there anyone, who uses this?
